In 1994 the parish council of Westhall organised a 'Westhall Week', a community celebration part of which was an exhibition of local history in the church. Two important outcomes of the event were, 'Westhall: History in Old Photographs', based on a collection made by Linda Clifton, and 'Seven Wonders of Westhall' , a celebration of the hidden history and archaeology of the parish by Peter Warner (ISBN 0952778505). These two publications laid bare the roots of the community, beginning with the discovery of a hoard of metal objects buried by an itinerant blacksmith in late Roman times, to a vision of the last days of Westhall as a purely agricultural community.
